Bangkok Fireball

I saw the exact same thing from my back yard late one evening earlier this year. I fully expected to hear cops, fire trucks, sirenes, and the like right after but there was zip. Not everyone keeps a frickin’ video camera stuck to their eyeball every waking moment.

I really expected to hear a crash or boom or explosion, but there was nothing. Whatever it was just burned up before it hit. End of story.

  1. Yep, if it burns up before it gets to where the atmosphere starts getting dense, you won’t hear a thing.

Like the CNN talking heads said, it was estimated to have burned up at “100 km”. That’s 62 miles, and the air up there is way too thin to propagate sound for very far.
