I received four $20 coupons from Duracell that will expire the last day of this year. $80 of batteries for free? That was better than anticipated. No word or coupon from Energizer yet.

I received word from our local coop electric, that the fiber internet is “coming soon” to our area. For $60 a month, I get 75 Mbps; the pricing goes up from there. I am thinking that would be plenty fast for any type of streaming I would need. Free installation ($99) and a Roku device included until September..oh yeah, while supplies last.

Remember when internet was just internet? Anyone remember the 56K dial up modems?

They also indicated that the modem was included in the price.

I’ll apply for service after we return from our trip. I’ll have to figure out where to set up the modem and router to effectively use the Roku; if there are any left.

  1. I had a 300 baud phone cradle modem as my first modem. When I built my next system it had a screaming 9600 baud that the phone line plugged directly into. I think I still have a 36.6 and 56.6 PCMCIA card modems down in the basement.

I have AT&T fiber to the house that is supposed to be 30 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up (cheapest package). I just ran a speedtest.net test and it is running just over 8 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up but there is a movie playing in the background so that is eating up the majority of the bandwidth. If I turn off the wireless cameras and the TV I will get my 30 down and 10 up.
