Had a cousin who was a long time TWA employee at their overhaul base in Missouri.
He would only say that not one of the hundreds of aircraft mechanics he knew who worked there believed any of the stories about how this malfunction or that malfunction caused the crash. I remember the supposed “root cause” of the crash as being an electrical conductor that had it’s insulation degraded over time by mechanical vibration and the exposed conductor finally caused some kind of short circuit that brought the plane down. Kinda like Chinese wet markets being responsible for SARS-COV2. Or so our betters in government want us to believe.
The NTSB can say whatever it wants; as long as TPTB OK it.
